Hi Friends! It is a crazy time to be alive and we are sharing all of our COVID-19 Wedding Planning Tips on the blog today.
Let’s preface by saying that I am not a doctor or lawyer, just a wedding photographer hoping to shed some sunshine for all the spring couples out there that are trying to figure out their wedding plans. Yesterday, the CDC recommended that organizers cancel or postpone events of more than fifty people for the next eight weeks. Sure this affects a lot of people, especially spring weddings well into May 2020.
Today I’m sharing all the essentials I believe to be the most crucial for postponing or rescheduling your wedding. While we have never had to reschedule a wedding due to a pandemic, we have had experience re-planning weddings due to hurricanes and travel bans. Safety and flattening the curve is the most important part of fighting this virus. So let’s jump right in and get right to it!
Plan Don’t Panic! The worst thing you could do during this high-stress time is panic. Sure you should be upset, but remain positive and get to fixing mode. Lean on your partner, communicate with your vendor team, and ask family and friends for help. There is so much that can be done virtually and through a good ol’ phone call.
If you haven’t hired a wedding planner, we suggest doing so ASAP! Planners are great resources for fixing problems. They can help you find new venues or dates, organize your vendor team, and work to give you the best options to reschedule. They are the professionals in this field and you should trust them to do just that. Need some help finding a planner in your area, feel free to email us and we will send some favs your way!
Check your top vendor(s) availability. Figure out who are your top vendors that you must work with for your wedding day. I recommend reaching out to them BEFORE you reschedule your date and find out their availability. This will be helpful when determining which date works best for everyone as your preferred date may already be booked. Rescheduling is better than cancelling all together if possible.
Prioritize the things that matter the most. You are going to have to make some tough decisions. Maybe a vendor isn’t available, maybe you are getting married in a completely different season or venue, maybe you need to consider a smaller guest count than a large wedding, maybe traveling is just out of the question. There are so many variables and you need to consider all options. This is why communicating and asking for help are important…you shouldn’t have to do it alone. There are tons of people out there wanting to help make your day extra special.
Remember what it’s all about. At the end of all this chaos, your marriage is what is the most important. Remember why you started this journey and why you are tying the knot. Happy couples make for happy days!
Sending love and light to everyone worldwide. Stay safe, be informed, and let’s do our part to flatten the curve!
