Florence, Italy Travel Guide II

Travel

This Florence, Italy travel guide is long overdue — Florence has a way of making you feel like you’ve lived there in another life. This was our second visit, and somehow it felt even better than the first — slower, more intentional, and full of the kind of moments you don’t plan for. This time, we leaned into the art and architecture side of the city.

What to See in Florence

If you haven’t been to the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s David in person, add it to the list immediately. No photo prepares you for the scale of it. Walking the streets of Florence is an experience in itself, and moreover, every turn reveals something worth stopping for — a carved doorway, a hidden courtyard, a view of the Duomo you didn’t expect. The Duomo is even more breathtaking up close than in photographs. Meanwhile, crossing the Ponte Vecchio leads you into a quieter, more residential side of the city that feels worlds away from the tourist crowds.

What to Eat and Drink in Florence

Florence is where we perfected the art of the Aperol Spritz at golden hour. Additionally, we found a rooftop bar with sweeping views of the city — red wine in hand as the sun went down — and it became an instant favorite memory. Gelato, obviously, was a daily non-negotiable. Furthermore, the food in Florence overall is some of the best in Italy. Don’t skip a proper sit-down dinner in a tiny trattoria with no English menu — those are always the best ones.

Florence for Couples: Elopements and Destination Weddings

Florence is one of the most romantic cities in the world, and consequently one of the most requested destinations for elopements and intimate weddings. The architecture, the golden light, the energy of the streets — it all translates beautifully on film. If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding or anniversary session in Italy, I would love to be your photographer. There is truly no better backdrop in the world.

Enjoy!
